Selective Laser Melting (SLM): the additive fabrication process with the widest choice of metal materials for medical and industrial applications.

MTT Technologies Group - Stone Staffordshire UK - November 2009.

MTT will be showing the new range of SLM systems in Hall 11, Booth D80 and following the previous 2008 agreement between 3D systems and MTT, the SLM systems are also marketed under the 3D systems own label as the Sinterstation Pro DM250 and DM125. The DM250 machine will be on display on the 3D Systems stand in Hall 11, Booth D46.

3D Systems and MTT have maintained a collaborative relationship for almost 20 years and the agreement reached in 2008 regarding the sales, marketing and support of MTT's SLM technology serves to strengthen this alliance.

Selective Laser Melting (SLM) is set to become an embedded manufacturing technology in sectors from Medical Orthopaedics and Dental through to Aerospace, Automotive and Tooling. The process produces dense metal parts direct from CAD data in a wide range of commercially available fine metal powders. This is achieved by using a high powered tightly focussed laser beam to fuse fine metal powders, including Titanium, Cobalt Chrome and Stainless Steel, together layer by layer to form a fully dense homogeneous metal parts.

SLM unlocks the capability to produce complex structures and intricate geometries allowing designers' the freedom to create optimal designs without the restrictions of conventional, machining or casting processes. The SLM systems are designed with tool room robustness and ease of use in mind and feature all the requisite safety and handling systems required for fine powder processing.
