Two Proven Rapid Prototyping and Manufacturing Technologies will be shown at Rapid 2009 by MTT Technologies Group.

The MTT Vacuum Casting Process:

MTT Technologies, previously known as MCP-Group, is the undisputed market leader in vacuum casting, the process which delivers quality plastic and wax parts quickly without the need for hard tooling. Vacuum cast components are commonly used for prototyping or low volume production applications as diverse as automotive under hood parts, high quality trims, consumer products and tough structural parts. The vacuum casting machine on show will be the mid range MTT 5/04 which accommodates a maximum mould size of H 29" x W 35" x D 29" (H 750 x W 900 x D 750 mm) with a capacity to produce parts up to 12 lbs (5.5 kg) in weight. All MTT’s vacuum casting machines are PLC controlled and will produce parts in a huge range of PU based, non-mercury vacuum casting resins and in investment casting wax, to produce metal parts. Nylon-Plus is the newest of MTT’s vacuum casting modules and has been designed for producing production quality parts in filled and unfilled Nylon. Nylon parts can be produced in cycles around 30 minutes and with significant mechanical performance and surface advantages over plastics sintering technologies, with mould life ranging from around 15 – 30 castings depending upon size and complexity. Both vacuum casting processes utilise MTT´s extremely quick and accurate silicone tooling technology.

The MTT Metal Part Casting Process

Visitors interested in the production of high quality parts in non-ferrous metals will be able to inspect MTT's MPC 300 with 15 lbs (7.0 kg) capacity in Al, one of a range of metal part casting systems designed to produce quick, economical metal castings for prototypes and low and medium production runs. Metal prototypes and mould inserts can be produced in as little as one to three days in materials such as Zinc, Aluminium, Bronze, Brass and Copper, from either "burn out" models such as vacuum cast waxes, or other master models from many commercially available model making and RP systems.

The models are encapsulated in ceramic and heated and melted out to leave a cavity which is filled automatically with metal, either under vacuum, pressure or gravity. The system is well suited to parts with thin walls and complex geometries and delivers a high quality surface similar to pressure diecasting.

On average, users of MTT Processes can expect to save up to 97% in time and cost compared to conventional tooling and manufacturing methods.
All MTT Processes are supplied worldwide as complete package processes including all necessary equipment and materials together with a theoretical and hands-on practical course of instruction.

To see these systems at first hand, visit MTT at RAPID 2009 booth no. 509
